American Idol predictions 2.

Well, I cannot say I was surprised at who went home last week. Although they weren’t the people I predicted would go home, it made sense. I had actually forgotten about three of them. So, there you have it. Forgettable is definitely not good.

This week, the men did so much better. It was an enjoyable show to watch. Sundance was back in all his glory, and was superb. I really like Chris, and he sang very well. Blake was great too. He is one of my favorite guys–totally original, and very pop. Those were my three favorite performances.

Aside from those, Phil and A.J. also did well. Brandon and Nick have nice voices, but Brandon was a little too introspective with his performance and Nick may get lost in the shuffle. I think Sanjaya’s performance was, again, the weakest of the bunch, but he’s a likable kid with a good deal of charm, so he may escape elimination again. Jared’s good looks may save him as well.

My prediction is that although Phil and A.J. both sang well, neither is safe. Nick is also not safe. I believe the two that go home will come out of that group.

As for the ladies, this is such a strong group. Lakeisha, Melinda, Stephanie, Jordin, Sabrina, Gina–that’s over half the group that’s singing well. Melinda’s performance was my favorite of the night.

The girls that should have gone home last week, Antonella and Alaina, will, I think, be saved by their looks this week. I’ll be surprised if Leslie and Haley don’t go home tomorrow.

American Idol predictions.

Well, I just walked in the door, and American Idol is on. I was too beat to post last night about my thoughts on the singers this year, but I will see that I will be surprised if Antonella and Sanjaya don’t go home tonight. They’re both young and cute and they have nice voices, but they had two of the weakest performances of the week in my opinion. There were some other weak performances too–Nick’s was nice but supremely boring, and Alaina, though a beautiful girl, has too soft a pop voice to last long. Let’s see if I’m right.

Spirituals.

Last week in class we talked about African-American spirituals. We also sang a couple of them. Here is a link to more information.

Totally unrelated musings.

Okay. Well, they’re not TOTALLY unrelated, because they do have to do with music. Keep in mind, these are my PERSONAL opinions; you are under no obligation whatsoever to agree…

  1. The Police reunion on the Grammys. I LOVE the Police. I’m glad they’re kickin it again.
  2. Prince. I LOVE Prince. I was bummed that I missed his Super Bowl halftime show. I used to have almost all of his albums. Now, after years of moving around, I have none. It’s time to restock everything I once had, especially his greatest album, Sign O’ The Times. I hear 3121 is great too.
  3. The Grammys. A disappointment. Aside from some great performances (The Police, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, John Mayer-John Legend-Corinne Bailey Rae), it was a bust. I really wish these awards ceremonies were based on actual artistic merit and not people’s politics.
  4. American Idol. I’ll be posting my take on each week’s performances. For now, let me just say that I expect the Sundance guy, the Janis-Joplin-sounding blonde girl with the pierced tongue, and the female backup singer to be among the frontrunners. We’ll see how right I am. I’ve been pretty good at picking who the finalists would be, and even the winners. I began watching it with the Season 2 Final, having never seen any of the previous shows. I called Ruben as the winner. I watched the next season from the beginning. I called Fantasia as the winner, though I thought Latoya and Jennifer would be (and should have been) the other two finalists. The next season, I called Carrie, Bo, and Constantine as the finalists. I honestly thought Bo would walk away with it, but Carrie is a good singer and it’s not shocking that she won. Last year was strange. I called Chris as the winner from the moment I saw his audition, and I saw Katharine as the runner-up the moment I saw her audition. I never saw Elliot’s audition, but I was pleased with how far he went because I like his voice. I like Taylor’s unique style, but I must say I was surprised. I have Daughtry’s CD. I love it.

Anyway, I’ll be watching American Idol eagerly, to see if I get it right or wrong this year. One cool thing about the show is that it’s always full of surprises.

Oh, and Heroes is my absolute favorite show.

Extreme makeover, blog edition…revisited.

I know it’s still the dead of winter, and the previous theme was cute and all, but hey, every time there’s a new one I’m tempted to try it, and this one’s pretty cool. What do you think?
